Anthony "Tony" Shiro
April 1919 - April 2009

Anthony David Shiro was born on April 19, 1919 in New York City and died April 30, 2009 on his property in Newcastle. From an infant to age 18, he was raised in children's facilities run by Catholic charities within the state of New York. Tony came to California to take a job at McClellan Field. He attended Sacramento City College and UC Davis. He was drafted into the military in 1944 during World War II. Tony retired from McClellan Air Force Base after 37 years of service.

Tony received many awards from Placer Elementary School and Del Oro High School where he was an active and devoted supporter. Tony was very active in the Loomis Community; he coached soccer for a number of age groups for over ten years as well as volunteered throughout his children's school years. He was well known for his vegetables and fruits, which he generously shared with family and friends. He was a member of the Carmichael Elks for 18 years and a volunteer at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee for 20 years. Tony was a life member of the South Placer Heritage Foundation.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Dorothy "Dot" Shiro, and their children Steve and Tiffani Shiro, Dave and Nancy Shiro with beloved grandchildren Kady and Jake Shiro, and Jim and Felicia (Shiro) Swanson.

Interment will be a private family service, with arrangements under the direction of Sierra Foothills Funeral Services.

Friends may gather at the family home for an open house on Saturday, May 9, beginning at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Salvation Army, South Placer Heritage Foundation or the charity of your choice.
